Open accounts

The desktop app is open source under AGPLv3 and the software itself costs nothing. Servers, domains and everything else that keeps the site running are paid for by the founder, not passed on to you.

What you pay covers one thing: the third-party services the software calls on your behalf — AI models, OCR, speech-to-text, legal and company databases, web search. Those vendors bill per call; we buy in bulk so you do not have to open seven accounts and sign seven contracts.

The flat 20% on top of the upstream charge is not a margin, it is a compromise over payment-channel fees: Apple takes 30% on in-app purchases (15% under the Small Business Program), WeChat Pay and Stripe each take something else. Pricing per channel would turn the price list into a puzzle, so one number applies to everyone — and topping up on this site is the cheapest route.

Any surplus first repays what the founder fronted for servers and domains; everything beyond that is donated to a national charity. Accounts and usage are published every six months, here and on GitHub, with the donation receipts attached.
